FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR STAFF

What is the Wellness Center? Where is it?

  • The Wellness Center is safe space for students at Sobrato. They can come here before class or during brunch and lunch. It is a great space to connect with others, and there are several awesome spots with armchairs where they can just relax by our waterfall.

  • Students can also come during class if they are having a difficult time remaining in their classroom due to anxiety or depression, and they can utilize our space as calm and safe environment. There is always someone to listen to your students when they need to talk.

How do I send a student to the Wellness Center during class time?

  • Students can ask you for permission to go to the Wellness Center or you might make that recommendation for them when you see they are struggling in your class. In this case, you will need to fill out the Minga pass when you send them, with a 5 min time limit. When Ruby meets them in the Wellness Center, she will create a new Minga pass for them. When students come, Ruby makes a brief assessment and based on the student’s answers she decides how long the student can stay in the Wellness Center or if the student needs to see Martina immediately due to a crisis. Students usually remain in the Wellness Center for about 15 to 20 minutes depending on their individual needs.

I am concerned about a student. What can I do?

  • If you have a student who you think struggles with strong emotions or difficult situations in their life and might benefit from therapeutic support, you can fill out our referral form (save the link for easy reference), where you let us know what is going on. Martina will then meet with the student and connect them to additional resources as needed. If you want to know more about how to support the student, don’t hesitate to email Martina who can give you some helpful tips. Martina might come to your classroom to pick up a student for therapeutic support. You don’t need to put the student’s name into Minga, Martina will do that. Therapeutic sessions usually take about 45 minutes, after which the student will return back to your class.

  • You can submit a referral here.
